Teacher Recruitment and Retention

Teacher Recruitment Support

Join the growing number of Doncaster schools who have taken advantage of the Opportunity Area initiative to support schools to secure the staff they need.

The project aims to provide practical and constructive support to schools to attract quality talent. The process works with schools to devise specific targeted strategies to recruit and support candidates.

In the first three months resourcing solutions have delivered results with schools and successfully supported in recruiting 9 posts to date.

In addition to this they have been working with a range of ITT providers from across the wider area to help promote and broaden the potential candidate pool for Doncaster.

Contact either Heater, Heather.Christmas@northyorks.gov.uk or Glen, Glen.Hunt@northyorks.gov.uk in the Resourcing Solution team to see how they can help you.

Future Teaching Scholars Programme

To note: this is not fully-funded but would cost schools the same amount as to employ a non-future teaching scholar member of teaching staff.

The Future Teaching Scholars is a new and unique approach to teacher training. It encourages exceptional maths and physics students to go into teaching the subjects they love. Scholars continue in-depth study of their subjects via an undergraduate degree whilst also learning about teaching through training sessions, online modules and undertaking practical in-school experiences.

They are currently looking for schools that have appropriate vacancies for scholars to complete their Initial Teacher Training (ITT) in 2019. If you think that your learners deserve to be taught by passionate subject specialists who have three years’ experience and are committed to effective teaching then please get in touch with Mr John Coats, Director of Hallam Teaching School Alliance jcoats@notredamehigh.co.uk

South Yorkshire Futures

The social mobility partnership South Yorkshire Futures has been funded by the Doncaster Opportunity Area to undertake research into teacher recruitment and retention.
If you or your school would be interested in feeding into this work please contact Susan O’Brien – Susan.O’Brien@shu.ac.uk

School Experience Programme

We have funded Hallam TSA to deliver a range of teaching experience placements into Doncaster schools, this will help promote Doncaster schools as attractive places to work, to pupils, teaching assistants looking to become teacher, career changers and current trainee teachers. This will be available to schools at no cost, in some cases with funding attached to free up teachers to support experience recipients.

They are currently offering to bring groups of trainee teachers to your school so you can promote your school to them.
